Cochrane Italy

The Cochrane Italy Center was founded in 1994 by Alessandro Liberati with the aim of promoting the activities of the Cochrane global network in Italy and Southern Europe.

Since its foundation, Cochrane Italy has operated within the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan, with which it has shared scientific objectives and a commitment to medicine at the service of patients and citizens. Since 2012, the Center activities have been mainly carried out within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Since 2024, Cochrane Italy has become part of the IRCCS Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna.

Collaboration and knowledge sharing

Cochrane Italy works in synergy with the Cochrane centers present in Italy and around the world, hosted by prestigious universities and international research institutes. This collaboration allows for the sharing of best practices and guidelines in the field of health research. The center is also committed to involving patient associations and networks in its activities, fostering a space in which they can offer a valuable perspective on their experiences and needs.

Collaborating also means optimizing the use of resources, creating useful and targeted research, producing and disseminating high-quality scientific evidence that responds to the real needs of healthcare professionals and citizens.

Methodological support for professionals

We offer essential methodological support to Italian students, researchers and healthcare professionals interested in the clinical practice of Evidence-Based Medicine. This support translates into activities of:

  • Training: Courses and seminars to acquire the skills necessary to critically evaluate scientific literature and apply the best Cochrane research evidence in daily practice.
  • Consulting: Personalized assistance for the search and use of Cochrane evidence in specific clinical settings.
  • Dissemination: Information materials and online resources to facilitate access and understanding of Cochrane evidence.

Collaboration with health authorities

The activities of the Cochrane Italy Center have led to close collaborations with the authorities and Regional and National Agencies, responsible for promoting innovation and quality of care in the National Health Service.

In this way, Cochrane Italy contributes to promoting a culture of Evidence-Based Medicine in Italy, promoting the adoption of informed clinical decisions and the provision of high-quality healthcare.
